A carpet to laminate threshold bar is normally the safest option here. T-bar transition strips also work well because they keep the doorway looking tidy while still giving laminate flooring enough room to move naturally.

For outside doorways, aluminum and stainless steel tend to cope with weather far better over time. A decent external door threshold waterproof profile should also include a rubber seal underneath to help stop draughts and rain creeping in around the entrance.

Most of the time, it comes down to three things, the floor types, the height difference, and whether the doorway is internal or external. Once you know those, the right profile usually becomes much clearer.

It’s normally easier to buy a slightly longer profile and trim it back during fitting. Door openings vary more than people expect, especially in older properties where nothing is perfectly square anymore.

Depends on the profile really. Some are screw-fixed into the subfloor, others use self-adhesive backing, and some T-bars clip into a base track underneath. Worth dry-fitting first before fixing anything permanently. Saves hassle later.

Yes,  aluminium, uPVC, and oak threshold strips can all be cut with the correct blade or saw. If you’re fitting several at once though, pre-cut options can save a fair bit of time on-site.

Aluminium usually lasts longer and handles heavy traffic better without flexing or wearing down. uPVC is lighter and cheaper, so it works fine in quieter rooms. For external doors or busier entrances, aluminium tends to be the safer long-term choice.
